FluoRok, an Oxford-based chemical technology company, has completed a €26.64 million Series A financing round to accelerate the commercialisation of its proprietary fluorochemical production platform. The round, led by Orano Ventures Fund/Supernova Invest, brings the company’s total funding to approximately €50.6 million since its founding in 2022.
The capital injection marks a significant milestone for the deeptech venture, which has developed a patented process that eliminates the use of hazardous hydrogen fluoride in fluorochemical manufacturing. The technology addresses a critical pain point in an industry where traditional production methods rely on toxic and corrosive materials, creating substantial safety and environmental challenges.
Scaling Production and Commercial Expansion
FluoRok intends to deploy the new funding across multiple strategic priorities. The company plans to construct demonstrator facilities that will serve as blueprints for full-scale industrial operations, a critical step in validating the technology’s feasibility beyond pilot production. Simultaneously, the startup will expand its team to support scaling efforts and deepen relationships with commercial partners across multiple markets.
Dr. Gabriele Pupo, Founder and Chief Executive of FluoRok, commented on the development: “We are thrilled to welcome new investors on our journey to fundamentally change how the world makes fluorochemicals, with safer chemistry and better economics.”
The company is targeting applications in three key sectors: battery electrolytes for next-generation energy storage systems, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. Additionally, FluoRok is positioning itself to capture value from waste-to-value fluorinated polymer streams, a circular economy opportunity that transforms industrial byproducts into usable materials.
Strong Investor Backing
Beyond the lead investor, the round attracted backing from Bidra Innovation Ventures, Oxford Science Enterprises, BGF, GGF, Volta Energy Technologies, University of Oxford, EverQuest Capital Partners, CPI Enterprises, and WS Investment. The diverse investor base reflects confidence in both the technology’s potential and the company’s commercial viability.
The inclusion of University of Oxford as an investor signals the startup’s continued connection to its academic roots, while the participation of specialised deeptech and energy-focused funds underscores the strategic importance of safer chemical manufacturing processes in the energy transition and pharmaceutical industries.
Wider Ecosystem Significance
FluoRok’s funding milestone contributes to a growing trend of European deeptech companies attracting substantial capital for scaling novel manufacturing processes. The startup’s success in securing backing for industrial-scale production technology reflects increased investor appetite for solutions that combine technological innovation with environmental and safety improvements. As European regulatory frameworks continue to tighten around hazardous chemical use, companies offering safer, more economically viable alternatives are increasingly well-positioned to capture market share from incumbent manufacturers relying on legacy processes.
