Treble, an Icelandic startup developing cloud-based platforms for physics-based sound simulation and synthetic acoustic data generation, has closed a €15 million Series A-2 funding round led by Paladin Capital Group. The financing brings the Reykjavík-based company’s total funding to €36 million since its founding in 2020.
The round included participation from KOMPAS VC, Frumtak Ventures, and the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, underscoring growing investor confidence in Treble’s approach to addressing a critical gap in artificial intelligence development.
Closing the Acoustic Perception Gap
Treble’s platform addresses a fundamental limitation in current robotics and artificial intelligence systems. While modern robots and AI applications have made significant advances in visual perception, their ability to interpret and respond to acoustic information remains substantially underdeveloped. This limitation has real-world consequences across multiple industries and applications.
François Ruether, Vice President at Paladin Capital Group, explained the investment thesis: “Robotics will drive a profound wave of automation across the physical world. Yet today’s robots are largely limited to visual perception: they may detect what is in front of them but cannot interpret critical sounds – such as someone falling in another room or a crash around a corner. Even accurately understanding human speech remains difficult in real-world, acoustically complex environments.”
Strategic Growth Plans
Treble intends to deploy the fresh capital toward three primary objectives. The company will deepen its focus on physical AI and world models, representing a shift toward more sophisticated AI systems capable of understanding and simulating real-world physics. Additionally, Treble plans to accelerate development of its synthetic audio datasets, which serve as critical training data for machine learning applications.
The funding also supports Treble’s geographic expansion, with the company targeting increased market penetration in the United States. This move reflects broader ambitions to scale the platform beyond its European base and tap into North American demand for advanced acoustic simulation technologies.
