Danish Biotech Samplix Secures €25 Million First Close to Scale Single-Cell Platform

Samplix, a Danish biotech company based in Birkerød, has announced the first close of its Series B financing round, raising €25 million ($27 million) to accelerate the commercial adoption of its Xdrop droplet microfluidics platform. The round comprises €3 million in new equity and €22 million in shareholder convertible bonds, with a total target of €30 million for the complete financing.

WLanholding GmbH led the investment, marking a significant backing for the company’s next phase of growth. Dr. Werner Lanthaler, Founder and Managing Director of WLanholding, will join Samplix’s board as part of the investment.

Scaling Single-Cell Technology for Drug Discovery

Founded in 2013, Samplix has developed the Xdrop platform to address critical challenges in antibody discovery and single-cell analysis. The company’s technology enables researchers to isolate and analyze individual cells at scale, unlocking new possibilities for functional genomics and drug development workflows.

The capital injection will be directed toward three primary objectives: strengthening the company’s balance sheet, broadening commercial adoption of the Xdrop platform—particularly within antibody discovery applications—and expanding into AI-driven drug discovery initiatives that require large functional cell-level datasets.

The funding comes at a time when single-cell technologies are gaining prominence in the pharmaceutical industry. As drug developers increasingly recognize the value of cell-level insights for candidate identification and validation, platforms capable of processing and analyzing millions of individual cells have become essential tools in modern drug discovery pipelines.

Strategic Validation and Market Positioning

Dr. Lanthaler expressed confidence in Samplix’s market position and potential trajectory. “We are excited to partner with Samplix at this pivotal stage of its growth,” he stated. “The team has built a differentiated single-cell technology platform that solves real, persistent challenges in drug discovery. We believe Samplix is well positioned to become a category leader, and we look forward to supporting the team as they scale their impact across the industry.”

This assessment reflects broader market trends in European biotech, where specialized platforms addressing specific bottlenecks in drug development continue to attract institutional investment. Single-cell analysis has emerged as a key enabling technology for multiple therapeutic areas, from oncology to immunology and regenerative medicine.

European Biotech Momentum

Samplix’s funding success reflects sustained investor interest in the European healthtech and biotech sectors, particularly for companies developing foundational technologies with broad applications across the pharmaceutical industry. Danish biotech has established itself as a notable hub within the European startup ecosystem, supported by strong research institutions and established pharmaceutical infrastructure.

The company’s focus on both near-term commercial opportunities in antibody discovery and longer-term applications in AI-driven drug discovery positions it at the intersection of two significant industry trends. As pharmaceutical companies increasingly seek computational approaches to accelerate candidate identification, platforms capable of providing high-quality, cell-level functional data have become strategically valuable assets in the drug development workflow.
