Munich Cleantech Startup Furo Raises €3.44 Million to Scale Battery Storage Software Across Europe

Furo, a Munich-based cleantech company specializing in battery storage optimization software, has closed a €3.44 million Series A funding round to accelerate its European expansion and strengthen its engineering capabilities.

The round was led by US-based venture capital firm TQ Ventures, with participation from Sandberg Bernthal Venture Partners, Neo, and CDTM Venture Capital. This funding represents the startup’s first institutional capital injection since its establishment in 2025.

Optimizing Energy Economics Through Software

Furo has developed an artificial intelligence-driven platform designed to maximize the economic performance of battery storage systems in volatile electricity markets. Rather than focusing on hardware improvements, the company targets the software layer that determines how effectively battery installations reduce energy costs for customers.

Lena Sophia Voß, co-founder of Furo, explained the company’s core philosophy: “Our customers did not buy a battery in order to own a technology, but in order to lower their electricity bill. In one of the most volatile power markets in the world, that is decided by the software, not by the hardware. That is exactly why we founded Furo.”

The startup, formerly known as Lumera Energy, repositioned itself to address a critical gap in the battery storage market. As renewable energy integration increases grid complexity, sophisticated software becomes essential for operators seeking to maximize returns on their energy storage investments.

Strategic Deployment of Capital

The newly secured €3.44 million in funding will be deployed across three primary objectives. Furo plans to accelerate development of its core optimization platform, enabling the company to introduce new features and capabilities that further enhance battery system performance.

The investment will also support geographic expansion beyond Germany into additional European markets. This expansion strategy reflects growing demand across the continent for solutions that improve battery economics as countries transition toward renewable energy infrastructure.

Additionally, Furo intends to expand its team, building out engineering, sales, and commercial functions necessary to support its scaling ambitions across multiple European markets.

European Energy Storage Context

The funding announcement arrives at a pivotal moment for Europe’s energy infrastructure. As the continent accelerates its renewable energy transition and seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, battery storage capacity has become increasingly strategic. However, the technical and economic optimization of these systems remains a significant operational challenge.

Software-driven solutions that can navigate complex, dynamic electricity markets represent a competitive advantage for energy operators and aggregators. Furo’s emergence and funding reflect broader investor confidence in cleantech software businesses that improve the efficiency and profitability of renewable energy infrastructure across Europe.
