Lightbringer, a Malmö-based legal technology company, has closed a €8.6M Series A funding round to accelerate its expansion into the United States and advance its AI-powered patent platform designed for technology companies.
The funding round was co-led by 6 Degrees Capital and Newion, with participation from Luminar Ventures and Alliance VC. The capital infusion brings the company’s total backing to a significant milestone as it pursues its ambition to reshape how deep tech companies approach intellectual property protection.
Reimagining Patent Protection
Lightbringer positions itself as a fundamentally different approach to patent management compared to traditional law firms and existing legal technology solutions. Rather than using artificial intelligence to simply accelerate conventional legal processes, the company has built an AI-native platform that handles substantial portions of patent work autonomously.
According to Dominic Davies, CEO and co-founder, “Protecting an invention still means weeks of back-and-forth with a law firm, unpredictable hourly billing, and surprise invoices. Most AI in this space just makes lawyers slightly faster. We built something different: an AI-native platform that handles the patent process directly for technology companies. Powerful agentic models do the work, with expert attorneys stepping in where judgment matters.”
The platform employs advanced AI models to manage routine patent processes while maintaining human expertise for decisions requiring specialized legal judgment. This hybrid approach aims to reduce both the timeline and cost associated with patent protection—traditional pain points for startups and technology companies navigating intellectual property strategy.
Strategic Growth Plans
The company intends to deploy the Series A funds primarily toward establishing operations in the United States, a critical market for technology companies seeking patent protection. The funding will also support ongoing development of its core platform, enabling the company to expand capabilities and accommodate growing demand from the deep tech sector.
Founded in 2023, Lightbringer has moved rapidly from its inception to securing institutional backing from established venture capital firms. The investor group’s participation suggests confidence in both the founding team’s execution ability and the market opportunity for AI-driven legal technology solutions in the patent space.
European Legal Tech Momentum
The funding reflects broader trends within the European startup ecosystem, where legal technology continues to attract significant venture capital attention. As regulatory frameworks across Europe evolve and compliance requirements grow more complex, startups addressing inefficiencies in legal processes have gained investor traction.
Lightbringer’s approach of combining automation with human expertise mirrors a broader pattern in European legal tech, where companies seek to augment rather than entirely replace traditional professional services. The company’s focus on deep tech companies also positions it within a growing segment of the European ecosystem that provides specialized services for the continent’s increasingly prominent technology sector.
