FuVeX, a Spanish drone technology company, has closed an oversubscribed Series A funding round of €3 million ($3.2 million) to accelerate its expansion in the European dual-use drone market. The round was led by SODENA, alongside investments from SEGO Venture, Izertis Ventures, and several family offices with backgrounds in industrial, agricultural and innovation sectors.
Founded in 2013, FuVeX specializes in developing long-range drone systems equipped with artificial intelligence-powered analytics capabilities designed for both civil and defence applications. The company’s focus on dual-use technology positions it in a growing segment of the European aerospace sector, where demand for domestically developed systems has intensified in recent years.
The startup plans to deploy the fresh capital across multiple strategic initiatives. The funding will support the expansion of its commercial and defence operations, strengthen its industrial and commercial teams, and increase manufacturing and operational capacity. FuVeX will also accelerate its international growth trajectory while investing in research and development for advanced drone systems that can meet evolving market requirements.
Vertical Integration as Competitive Advantage
According to Carlos Matilla, a representative of the company, FuVeX’s integrated approach differentiates it within a competitive landscape. “The vertical integration of our solution—from aircraft development and operations to data analysis—gives us a highly agile structure that can adapt to a rapidly evolving sector. This allows us to provide a comprehensive solution while reducing dependence on foreign technology,” Matilla said.
This vertical integration strategy reflects a broader European trend toward building sovereign technological capabilities in defence and security sectors. By controlling the entire value chain from manufacturing to data interpretation, FuVeX can respond more rapidly to client requirements and reduce supply chain vulnerabilities.
Strategic Positioning in Europe’s Defence Tech Ecosystem
The timing of FuVeX’s funding round aligns with increased European investment in defence innovation and technological sovereignty. Governments across the continent have prioritized the development of domestic drone capabilities for both civilian infrastructure monitoring and military applications. The company’s focus on long-range systems with advanced analytical features addresses practical needs in border security, environmental monitoring, and emergency response.
The investor consortium backing this round reflects confidence in FuVeX’s business model and growth potential. SODENA, Spain’s regional development agency, typically focuses on supporting innovation-driven companies, while venture firms like SEGO Venture and Izertis Ventures bring both capital and sectoral expertise to their investments.
The oversubscribed nature of the round suggests strong market interest in European drone technology providers that can offer alternatives to international competitors. As regulatory frameworks around unmanned systems continue to mature across EU member states, companies with established operations and technological credibility stand to benefit from expanding commercial opportunities.
With this funding secured, FuVeX enters a critical phase of scaling its operations while competing in an increasingly competitive European drone technology landscape.
