Portuguese Insurtech FRANK Raises €2.9 Million to Scale AI Platform for Insurance Brokers

FRANK, a Portuguese insurtech company, has secured €2.9 million in Series A funding to accelerate development of its artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to streamline operations for insurance brokers. The round was led by Armilar, with participation from Start Ventures.

The capital injection will support three primary objectives for the company: strengthening its support infrastructure for brokerage clients, investing in research and development of its core technology, and laying groundwork for international expansion beyond its home market.

Automating Administrative Burden

FRANK’s platform, known as the AI Operator, targets a persistent challenge within the insurance brokerage sector. According to Antonio Castro, Co-founder and CEO of FRANK, the scale of the problem is substantial: “Most brokers spend 80% of their time on back-office tasks instead of being with clients. Brokers need to be freed from operational work so they can focus on risk advisory and on their clients, bring more insurance literacy to consumers, and help protect people better.”

By automating time-consuming administrative functions, the platform enables insurance professionals to redirect their efforts toward client relationships and more complex advisory work. This shift in focus could allow brokers to provide improved risk assessment and customer guidance while simultaneously enhancing overall service quality within the sector.

European Expansion on Horizon

While FRANK currently operates within Portugal, the company has signaled ambitions for geographic expansion. According to the funding announcement, the company aims to move beyond its home market and enter new European territories in 2027. The secured capital will support the technical development and training of its AI technology necessary to serve international markets with different regulatory frameworks and business practices.

The timing aligns with broader trends in European insurtech, where companies increasingly view cross-border expansion as essential for achieving scale and competing with larger incumbents. FRANK’s planned international push reflects growing confidence in its operational model and technology foundation.

Strategic Backing

The participation of both Armilar and Start Ventures underscores investor interest in automation solutions within financial services. These investors recognize the efficiency gains achievable when artificial intelligence targets back-office workflows, where standardized processes offer clear opportunities for technological intervention.

The funding round demonstrates continued venture capital activity in the Portuguese tech ecosystem, which has developed increasing prominence within European startup circles. FRANK joins a growing cohort of Portuguese fintech companies attracting international investment attention for solutions addressing sector-specific operational challenges.
