Oxford Biotech OMass Therapeutics Secures €275 Million Series C to Advance Small-Molecule Pipeline

OMass Therapeutics, an Oxford-based biopharmaceutical company, has announced the successful completion of an oversubscribed €275 million (approximately $295 million) Series C financing round. The capital injection represents a significant milestone for the company as it transitions its novel small-molecule therapeutics toward clinical development.

The round was co-led by Bain Capital Life Sciences, Forbion, and Novo Holdings, with participation from Janus Henderson Investors, SV Health Investors, Jefferson Life Sciences, Syncona, Oxford Science Enterprises, GV, Northpond Ventures, Sanofi Ventures, British Business Bank, and the University of Oxford.

Advancing a Rare Disease Pipeline

OMass, founded in 2016 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford, specializes in developing targeted therapies for conditions with limited treatment options. The company’s lead programme, OMS1620, will now advance into Phase 2 clinical development for two rare endocrine disorders: congenital adrenal hyperplasia and ACTH-dependent Cushing’s syndrome. These conditions affect the body’s ability to regulate cortisol production and often result in serious metabolic and cardiovascular complications if left untreated.

Beyond its flagship candidate, OMass plans to generate early clinical data for a SLC15A4 inhibitor designed to treat lupus and related autoimmune diseases. The remaining capital will support broader pipeline development, enabling the company to expand its portfolio of small-molecule therapeutics.

Clinical Translation Milestone

Speaking about the financing achievement, OMass Chief Executive Officer Ros Deegan noted that “this financing comes at an exciting point in OMass’ evolution as we advance OMS1620 into the clinic, with our SLC15A4 inhibitor poised to follow.” The statement underscores the company’s confidence in its development strategy and the investor enthusiasm behind its scientific approach.

The oversubscribed nature of the round reflects growing confidence among institutional investors in OMass’ ability to translate academic research into effective therapies. The participation of both established venture capital firms and strategic healthcare investors suggests broad-based support for the company’s trajectory.

European Biotech Momentum

OMass’ successful funding announcement contributes to the broader narrative of European biotech gaining traction in early-stage drug development. The combination of academic research capabilities, particularly from institutions like Oxford, with increasing venture capital availability, has positioned the region as a competitive hub for therapeutics innovation. The involvement of international investors alongside UK institutions such as the British Business Bank demonstrates how European biotech companies continue to attract global capital for transformative healthcare solutions.

The company now joins a growing cohort of European biotechs moving rare disease candidates into clinical trials, addressing therapeutic gaps where patient populations remain underserved by existing treatment options.
