Xentra, a Leeds-based cybersecurity firm, has closed a €3.18 million Series A funding round led by Maven VCTs, with participation from NPIF II. The investment marks a significant milestone for the startup, which was founded in 2021 and now counts this as its total funding to date.
The capital injection will support Xentra’s expansion across multiple operational areas. The company plans to strengthen its senior leadership team, accelerate customer acquisition efforts, and invest substantially in both people and technology. The funding will also finance the development of a proprietary customer portal and expand the company’s STAX product suite, while supporting broader efforts to enhance customer experience and scale sales and marketing operations.
Xentra operates in the managed cybersecurity services space, focusing specifically on small and medium-sized enterprises. The market segment has seen increasing attention from investors in recent years as SMEs face mounting pressure to strengthen their cybersecurity posture amid rising regulatory requirements and sophisticated cyber threats.
“This investment gives us the resources to accelerate our growth plans and strengthen every part of the business,” said Henry Doyle, CEO of Xentra. “We have built Xentra by focusing on what matters most; expert advice, responsive support and solutions that genuinely help our customers manage increasingly complex cyber security, compliance and safeguarding requirements.”
The funding round reflects growing confidence in the UK’s cybersecurity startup ecosystem, particularly among investors backing ventures that address the security challenges facing smaller businesses. Many SMEs struggle to implement comprehensive security measures due to resource constraints and limited in-house expertise, creating a substantial market opportunity for managed service providers.
Maven VCTs, the lead investor in this round, specializes in early-stage venture capital investments across various sectors. NPIF II, the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, represents a broader effort to foster growth in Northern England’s technology and startup landscape.
Addressing SME Cybersecurity Gaps
Xentra’s focus on compliance and safeguarding requirements reflects a broader industry trend. As data protection regulations tighten across Europe and elsewhere, smaller companies increasingly require specialized guidance to navigate complex requirements while maintaining operational efficiency. The startup’s emphasis on responsive support suggests an approach centered on accessibility for businesses that may lack dedicated security teams.
Strengthening UK Tech Leadership
This funding round contributes to the Northern England tech ecosystem’s continued development. Leeds has emerged as a notable technology hub in recent years, attracting investment and fostering entrepreneurship across various digital sectors. Xentra’s growth trajectory aligns with broader efforts to establish Northern England as a genuine alternative technology center to London and the Southeast.
The company’s expansion plans come at a time when European startups in cybersecurity continue attracting significant investor interest, driven by persistent threats and regulatory pressures. As regulatory frameworks such as the NIS2 Directive advance across the EU, demand for security solutions and services adapted to business size and complexity will likely remain robust.
