Agora Labs, a Rome-based deep-tech company specializing in clinical data infrastructure, has raised €4.3 million in Series A funding to accelerate its expansion across Europe, North America, and emerging markets. The round was led by P101 SGR, with participation from the Mussetto family through Infinite Five.
The Italian startup has developed a federated artificial intelligence platform that enables hospitals to securely share clinical data for research purposes without compromising patient privacy. This approach addresses a critical gap in the medical research ecosystem, where data fragmentation often limits the scope and quality of clinical studies while privacy regulations create significant barriers to data sharing.
Scaling Operations and Global Expansion
Agora Labs plans to deploy the fresh capital toward several strategic objectives. The company will expand its hospital network, a core component of its infrastructure-as-a-service model. Additionally, it will recruit approximately 20 new technical and commercial staff members to support accelerated growth. The funding will also enable the startup to strengthen its presence in established markets across Europe and the United States, while simultaneously entering new territories in the Middle East and India.
Davide Zaccagnini, founder and CEO of Agora Labs, highlighted the strategic value of the investment beyond financial resources. “The arrival of P101 and Infinite Five in Agora Labs addresses two specific needs: scaling our data network even faster and activating global-scale projects on it. Resources matter, but what counts most is experience, market understanding, international credibility and genuine strategic collaboration within the board,” Zaccagnini stated.
Real World Evidence and Healthcare Innovation
Agora Labs operates within the broader real world evidence sector, which has gained significant momentum as healthcare systems increasingly recognize the value of data derived from actual patient experiences outside traditional clinical trials. The company’s federated model allows multiple institutions to contribute data while maintaining local control and compliance with regulations such as GDPR and other data protection frameworks.
The clinical data infrastructure space represents a critical frontier in healthcare innovation, particularly as artificial intelligence and machine learning applications become more prevalent in medical research. By enabling secure, privacy-preserving data collaboration, platforms like Agora Labs can accelerate research timelines and improve the quality of evidence available to pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and healthcare institutions.
The investment underscores growing confidence among European venture capital firms in deep-tech solutions addressing healthcare challenges. As the European startup ecosystem matures, investors increasingly focus on companies tackling fundamental infrastructure problems that affect entire industries. Agora Labs’ Series A round reflects this trend, positioning the startup to compete on an international scale while maintaining its European roots and regulatory expertise.
