Creoir, a Finnish defence-technology company, has secured €2 million in seed funding from Swedish venture capital firm Gungnir Capital to accelerate the commercialisation of its voice-enabled artificial intelligence solutions for European defence operators.
The Oulu-based startup, which was founded in 2012, develops on-device voice AI technology designed specifically for high-stress operational environments where personnel cannot afford to divert their attention from critical tasks. The funding will enable the company to scale its EdgeVUI and Operator Assistant products and respond to increasing demand from defence customers across Europe.
Addressing Operational Challenges
Voice-based interaction represents a significant operational advantage in defence contexts, where operators frequently manage multiple information streams and real-time decision-making processes simultaneously. By enabling hands-free control and interaction with systems, Creoir’s technology allows personnel to maintain focus on their primary mission objectives while accessing essential information and functionality.
Antti Lilja, CEO and Co-founder of Creoir, commented on the funding: “Defence operators work under extreme pressure, and hands-free voice interaction returns critical attention to the mission. Across Europe, demand for voice AI in defence systems continues to grow as programs prioritise operator efficiency under operational stress. With Gungnir Capital behind us, we can accelerate deliveries to our defence customers and advance our solutions from validated pilot projects to fielded capability.”
Market Expansion Plans
The investment will directly support Creoir’s transition from pilot and validation phases toward broader deployment across European defence organisations. The company intends to leverage the capital to enhance product development, strengthen its commercial capabilities, and establish the operational infrastructure necessary to support large-scale implementations.
The focus on defence-tech aligns with broader European strategic priorities. As geopolitical considerations intensify across the continent, defence and security technology investments have gained prominence among both government and private investors seeking to strengthen European autonomous capabilities and reduce dependencies on external suppliers.
Gungnir Capital’s decision to lead the round reflects growing investor confidence in European defence-tech solutions that address genuine operational requirements. The Swedish investment firm’s involvement underscores the regional appetite for startups developing critical infrastructure and capability enhancements for defence applications.
European Defence Tech Context
Creoir’s funding represents part of a broader trend within the European startup ecosystem, where venture capital increasingly targets companies addressing defence, security, and critical infrastructure challenges. As European nations prioritise technological sovereignty and operational resilience, venture investors have identified compelling opportunities in specialised technology sectors where European solutions can compete effectively with international alternatives.
The company’s background in voice AI development, combined with its specific focus on defence applications, positions it within a niche but growing segment of the European startup landscape where technical innovation meets strategic necessity.
