Iceye, the Finnish-headquartered spacetech scale-up, has formally established its Indian subsidiary, Iceye India, with headquarters in New Delhi. The move marks a significant expansion into the Indian market and signals the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s defence and intelligence agencies with advanced Earth observation services.
The establishment of Iceye India represents the company’s strategy to deepen its presence in strategically important markets. The subsidiary will focus on providing intelligence, surveillance and environmental monitoring services tailored to the needs of Indian defence and intelligence customers. Beyond service delivery, Iceye plans to develop local production capabilities, positioning India as a manufacturing hub for the company’s operations in the region.
Strengthening sovereign capabilities
Rafal Modrzewski, a representative of the company, outlined the significance of the initiative: “Iceye India means a real engineering and production capability on the ground. We are excited to build this project together with the government and local partners and to support India in strengthening its sovereign intelligence capabilities,” Modrzewski said.
The subsidiary’s dual focus on service provision and local manufacturing aligns with India’s broader strategic objectives around technological sovereignty and self-reliance in critical sectors. By establishing engineering and production capabilities within India, Iceye aims to reduce dependency on international supply chains while creating employment and technological expertise within the country.

Iceye has positioned itself as a key player in the global Earth observation market, with a total funding base of €450 million supporting its expansion. The company’s satellite-based technology enables high-resolution imaging and monitoring capabilities with applications spanning defence, intelligence, environmental monitoring and disaster response.
