CarbonFarm, a Paris-based climate technology company, has closed an oversubscribed €7 million Series A funding round to accelerate the deployment of its digital monitoring and project financing platform across key agricultural regions worldwide.
The funding round was led by Colam Impact, with participation from a consortium of international investors including Proparco, Suma Capital, elea, Working Capital Fund, Albo, BPI France, Serena & make sense (via Racine²), and Technmind. The capital injection will enable CarbonFarm to pursue geographic expansion and strengthen its technology infrastructure for rice-based decarbonisation initiatives.
Targeting Agriculture’s Methane Challenge
Founded in 2021, CarbonFarm has developed an artificial intelligence-powered satellite monitoring platform designed to help rice producers reduce methane emissions and water consumption. The company combines project development expertise with climate finance capabilities to connect smallholder farmers and agricultural enterprises with corporate supply chains and regulated carbon markets.
Rice cultivation accounts for a significant share of agricultural methane emissions globally, making the sector a priority target for decarbonisation efforts. CarbonFarm’s approach addresses this challenge by providing farmers with actionable insights through satellite-based monitoring while facilitating access to carbon finance mechanisms that reward emissions reductions.
Expansion Plans and Strategic Focus
The company plans to deploy its capital across four continents, establishing operations in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. The funding will support continued investment in technology development, team expertise expansion, and the creation of high-integrity rice projects that meet rigorous environmental standards.
A significant portion of the funding will be dedicated to developing, financing, and certifying rice projects that generate verifiable carbon credits. This dual focus on technology and project development distinguishes CarbonFarm’s model from traditional carbon offset providers.
Benjamine Friderich, Investment Director at Colam Impact, outlined the investment rationale: “CarbonFarm is building the enabling infrastructure for one of the largest untapped decarbonisation opportunities globally. We believe its combination of project-development expertise, climate‑finance capabilities and digital MRV creates a uniquely scalable platform in the rice sector.”
European Momentum in Climate Agriculture
The funding round reflects growing investor confidence in European climate tech companies addressing agricultural decarbonisation. As corporate net-zero commitments drive demand for verified carbon credits and emissions reduction solutions, startups combining digital monitoring with project finance are attracting substantial capital from both traditional venture investors and impact-focused funds.
CarbonFarm’s oversubscribed funding round demonstrates the market appetite for solutions that tackle emissions from large-scale commodity production while providing economic incentives to farmers. The company’s emergence from Paris positions France as a notable hub for climate-focused agricultural technology, complementing the broader European sustainability innovation landscape.
