Promptwatch, an Amsterdam-based artificial intelligence platform focused on chatbot visibility optimization, has raised €6 million in seed funding to accelerate its expansion into the North American market.
The round was led by Berlin-based Seed + Speed Ventures, with participation from Blum Ventures and Arches Capital. The investment underscores growing investor confidence in European artificial intelligence companies developing tools to navigate the emerging landscape of generative search engines.
Promptwatch, which operates in the generative engine optimization sector, helps businesses improve the visibility of their AI chatbots across various search and discovery platforms. The company has built a competitive presence in what remains a nascent market, achieving notable traction since its launch. Within 12 months of operation, Promptwatch reached €2 million in annual recurring revenue and has grown its user base to approximately 2,000 customers. The platform currently operates with a team of 17 employees.
The fresh capital will primarily support the company’s expansion into New York, marking a significant step toward establishing a presence in the United States market. This geographic diversification strategy reflects broader ambitions among European AI startups to capture opportunities beyond their home continent.
Competitive Positioning
In discussing the competitive landscape, Gijs de Groot, Promptwatch’s co-founder and chief executive, highlighted the global dynamics of the emerging AI search market. “I think there are around 10 serious competitors for AI search globally. In Europe, it’s us and [Berlin-based] Peec,” de Groot stated.
The mention of Peec, another European player in this space, underscores how generative engine optimization is becoming an increasingly important category for startups seeking to help businesses adapt to shifting search behaviors driven by artificial intelligence systems.
European AI Momentum
The funding announcement arrives amid a broader wave of investment activity in European AI startups. The continent has established itself as a significant hub for artificial intelligence development, with companies addressing various applications from content creation to enterprise automation.
Promptwatch’s growth trajectory—reaching significant revenue within its first year of operation—suggests that the generative engine optimization category may have substantial market potential as organizations grapple with making their content and services discoverable through AI-powered interfaces.
The involvement of multiple venture capital firms in the seed round indicates that investors see viable business models emerging in the infrastructure and optimization layers of the generative AI stack. As AI chatbots and search systems become increasingly central to how users discover information and services, platforms that help businesses navigate this environment are attracting capital and talent.
With the New York expansion now funded, Promptwatch joins a growing number of European startups establishing operations in major North American tech hubs while maintaining their European roots and continuing to compete in their home markets.
