Titan OS, a Barcelona-based developer of smart TV operating systems, has closed a €40 million (approximately $46 million) Series B financing round, marking a significant milestone for the European technology company. The capital injection brings the company’s total funding to €97 million ($110 million) since its inception in 2023.
The round was led by existing investors Highland Europe and Mangrove Capital Partners, with an additional credit facility from BlackRock, demonstrating continued confidence from major financial institutions in the company’s trajectory and business model.
Expanding European Alternatives
Titan OS has positioned itself as Europe’s leading independent operating system for connected televisions, a market traditionally dominated by American and Asian competitors. The company plans to deploy the new capital across three strategic areas: strengthening its market position in existing territories, expanding global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnerships, and investing in product innovation alongside advertising technology capabilities.
The financing reflects a broader trend of European technology companies seeking to develop competitive alternatives to established global players in key markets. With millions of homes already running its platform, Titan OS represents an effort to build indigenous European capabilities in connected device ecosystems.
Hyoung-Ung Kim, Chief Financial Officer of Titan OS, commented on the funding milestone: “Three years after launch, Titan OS is already in millions of homes and continues to deliver strong year-on-year growth as Europe’s leading independent operating system for connected TVs. Investments from BlackRock alongside Highland Europe and Mangrove gives us the capital to build on that foundation, expand into new markets, and do it from a position of financial strength. Our goal is clear: to become a true global player, built from Barcelona, in a market currently dominated by US and Asian companies.”
Strategic Market Positioning
The smart TV operating system market has traditionally been concentrated among a small number of international players, with Roku, Google’s Android TV, and proprietary systems from major manufacturers controlling the majority share. Titan OS’s emergence as a funded alternative suggests demand among European manufacturers for operating system options that offer greater independence and potentially different business models focused on the region’s market dynamics.
The company’s focus on OEM partnerships indicates a strategy to achieve scale through integration into television sets at the manufacturing level, rather than relying solely on software updates to existing devices. This approach mirrors successful models in the broader mobile and computing sectors.
The involvement of established investment firms like Highland Europe and Mangrove Capital Partners, combined with credit support from financial giant BlackRock, signals that institutional investors view the European smart TV operating system market as viable and strategically important. The confidence from these investors adds credibility to Titan OS’s competitive positioning as the continent develops its technological infrastructure independent of US and Asian technology ecosystems.
