Autonom Services S.A., the Piatra Neamț-based mobility company behind Romania’s Blue ride-hailing application, has acquired Business Lease Romania SRL from the Dutch Business Lease Group B.V. The move represents a strategic expansion of Autonom’s operational leasing division and signals the company’s broader ambitions to offer integrated mobility solutions to corporate clients.
The acquisition brings Business Lease Romania’s fleet management expertise under the Autonom umbrella, allowing the company to consolidate its position in Romania’s corporate transportation and leasing markets. Through this integration, Autonom aims to expand its available fleet, broaden its client portfolio, and leverage the acquired firm’s established relationships in corporate fleet management.
Strengthening the Leasing Segment
Since its founding in 2006, Autonom has evolved from a regional player into a growth-stage mobility operator. The company’s decision to move into operational leasing represents a natural extension of its core ride-hailing business, creating synergies between consumer-facing transportation services and business-to-business fleet solutions.
According to Marius Ștefan and Dan Ștefan, co-founders of Autonom, the strategic rationale is clear. “Leasingul operațional are un rol important în dezvoltarea Grupului Autonom, iar acordul pentru preluarea afacerii Business Lease România reflectă încrederea noastră în potențialul acestui segment,” they stated, emphasizing that operational leasing holds significant importance for the company’s growth trajectory.
The acquisition consolidates Autonom’s ability to serve corporate customers with comprehensive mobility packages. Rather than operating as separate entities, the integration enables the company to offer corporate clients both ride-hailing services through Blue and dedicated fleet leasing arrangements through the acquired Business Lease Romania operations.
Expanding Market Position
The transaction reflects confidence in Romania’s mobility and fleet management sectors at a time when corporate clients increasingly seek streamlined, integrated transportation solutions. By absorbing Business Lease Romania’s operations, Autonom gains immediate access to established corporate relationships and operational infrastructure that would have taken considerably longer to develop independently.
The integration strategy suggests Autonom is positioning itself as a comprehensive mobility solutions provider rather than a single-service operator. This approach mirrors broader trends across European mobility platforms, where companies seek to offer clients multiple transportation and logistics options through unified platforms.
European Mobility Market Context
Autonom’s expansion into operational leasing comes as European mobility startups increasingly diversify their service offerings. Companies across the continent are recognizing that sustainable growth requires moving beyond traditional ride-hailing models into adjacent markets such as corporate fleet management, subscription services, and last-mile logistics. The Romanian market, while smaller than Western European equivalents, represents a growing opportunity for mobility innovation and serves as a testing ground for business models that can potentially scale across Central and Eastern Europe.
