Norwegian AI Startup Jenz Secures €540,000 in Pre-Seed Funding to Automate Retail Operations

Jenz, an Oslo-based artificial intelligence startup, has raised €540,000 in pre-seed funding while simultaneously securing a NOK 1 million (€92,000) grant from Innovation Norway to accelerate development of its AI-powered retail operations platform.

The funding round was led by Ada Ventures, with Antler also participating as an investor. The capital injection positions Jenz to scale its product development efforts, expand beyond the Nordic region, and launch operations in the United Kingdom within the next nine months while acquiring additional retail customers across Europe.

Solving Real-World Retail Challenges

Jenz has developed a platform that consolidates retail data from multiple sources and automates back-office operations, addressing a critical gap in how retailers implement artificial intelligence. According to Remi Bjørnestad, “Most retailers we talk to want to use AI, but don’t know where and how to start. Many have tried generic AI tools and run into the same problems: they start from scratch every time and can’t handle the amount of data a store actually has. When AI is making decisions that cost real money, you have to make sure it acts on real and trusted data. That’s why we built the Jenz agent.”

The platform’s core strength lies in its ability to process the substantial volume of data generated by retail operations while maintaining data integrity and trustworthiness—factors that become critical when AI systems make decisions with direct financial implications for store operations.

European Expansion Strategy

The timing of this funding round reflects Jenz’s broader ambitions to capture market share across Europe’s retail sector. Rather than remaining concentrated in Scandinavia, the startup has prioritized geographic diversification as a key metric for growth. The UK represents a strategic entry point, given its mature retail market and high digital adoption rates among both established retailers and independent store operators.

The NOK 1 million grant from Innovation Norway demonstrates recognition of the startup’s potential from Norway’s innovation support infrastructure. This dual-funding approach—combining venture capital with government innovation backing—has become increasingly common among European AI startups seeking to validate their technology while maintaining adequate runway for market expansion.

Broader Ecosystem Context

Jenz’s funding success adds another data point to Norway’s growing presence in the AI and software-as-a-service sectors. While the country has traditionally been known for its strength in energy and maritime industries, Oslo has emerged as a secondary hub for technology entrepreneurship in Northern Europe, competing with Stockholm and Copenhagen for venture capital attention. The combination of Ada Ventures’ participation and Innovation Norway’s support suggests confidence in the startup’s ability to address a genuine market need across multiple geographies, positioning Jenz among the wave of European AI companies developing vertical, industry-specific solutions rather than horizontal platforms.
