Copenhagen Legal-Tech Startup SmallClaims Secures €2 Million Seed Round to Expand AI-Powered Litigation Platform

SmallClaims, a Copenhagen-based legal-technology startup, has closed a €2 million seed funding round ($2.2 million) led by Vendep Capital. The capital injection will enable the company to accelerate development of its artificial intelligence platform, expand into additional European markets, and grow its team in the Danish capital.

Founded in 2021, SmallClaims has built a software solution designed to automate the litigation process for small-claims disputes. The platform addresses a significant pain point in European commerce: the inefficiency of pursuing relatively modest claims through traditional court systems.

The Problem SmallClaims Is Solving

According to Christian Olson, Founder and CEO of SmallClaims, the scale of the problem is staggering. “Every year, European businesses write off more than €930 billion in claims – not because they’re not owed the money, but because a court case over a €2,000 invoice takes 15+ hours of legal work and often more than a year. So they let it go,” Olson stated.

This dynamic leaves businesses across Europe abandoning legitimate receivables simply because the cost and time investment required to pursue them through conventional litigation makes the effort economically unviable. Small claims represent a major blind spot in the European economic system, with countless disputes resolved through inaction rather than legal recourse.

Expanding Across Europe

The seed funding will allow SmallClaims to build upon its existing platform capabilities while pushing into new European jurisdictions. The company plans to use the capital to further develop its core AI technology, which automates various aspects of the litigation process that traditionally require significant manual legal work.

The investment also signals confidence in the legal-tech sector from Vendep Capital, which led the round. As the European legal-technology space continues to mature, solutions addressing specific inefficiencies in the justice system have attracted increasing investor attention.

SmallClaims’ approach represents a broader trend within European legal tech: leveraging automation and artificial intelligence to democratize access to legal remedies for small and medium-sized businesses. By reducing the time and cost associated with pursuing small claims, the platform could unlock substantial economic value currently trapped in unpaid invoices and abandoned disputes.

European Legal-Tech Momentum

The Copenhagen startup’s funding comes amid growing momentum in the European legal-technology sector. Legal-tech companies across the continent have increasingly focused on workflow automation, document analysis, and dispute resolution mechanisms that reduce friction for businesses navigating complex legal systems.

With this €2 million seed round, SmallClaims joins a growing cohort of European startups working to modernize legal infrastructure. The company’s focus on addressing a quantifiable market failure—the €930 billion in annual write-offs—provides a compelling value proposition as it scales across European markets.
