Klarent, a Zurich-based artificial intelligence startup specialising in autonomous software testing, has secured €7.13 million in Seed funding to accelerate its entry into the United States market and strengthen its product capabilities.
The round was led by Mosaic Ventures, with participation from Moonfire Ventures, AngelInvest Ventures, and angel investors Jürgen Galler and Harris Barton. Founded in 2023 by two former Google engineers, Klarent has developed an AI-driven platform designed to automate quality assurance and testing processes for enterprise software development teams.
Expanding Beyond Europe
The capital injection marks a significant milestone for the nascent company, which will deploy the funds across several strategic priorities. Beyond its US market entry, Klarent plans to expand its engineering team, broaden its cross-platform testing capabilities, and establish a foothold in the financial services sector.
The company has already established itself with prominent enterprise customers, including sportswear retailer JD Sports, Swiss publisher NZZ, and car rental service Sixt, suggesting early validation of its technology among established corporations. These deployments demonstrate the platform’s ability to integrate into complex, production-grade environments.
The QA Bottleneck
The funding underscores growing recognition within the software development industry that testing represents an increasingly critical constraint as development methodologies accelerate. Chandar Lal, Partner at Mosaic Ventures, framed the investment opportunity around this emerging challenge: “With AI, code generation is scaling faster than our ability to test it, so QA will become the key bottleneck… We’re delighted to back the team as they expand to the US.”
This observation reflects a structural shift in software development. As generative AI tools enable developers to produce code at unprecedented velocity, the corresponding need to validate and test that code creates a potential productivity ceiling. Quality assurance departments frequently struggle to keep pace with development cycles, making automation in this domain particularly valuable.
Market Timing
Klarent’s timing appears strategic. The software testing market has drawn increasing venture investment attention as enterprises seek to improve efficiency and reduce manual testing overhead. Autonomous testing solutions that leverage machine learning to adapt test cases and identify potential failures address a genuine operational need across industries.
The startup’s decision to target the US market reflects the natural trajectory for European software companies seeking global scale. The American enterprise software market remains the largest and most competitive, but also offers the highest growth potential and largest customer bases for B2B technology solutions.
With this funding round, Klarent joins a growing cohort of European AI-focused infrastructure companies establishing themselves as alternatives to established testing platforms. The startup ecosystem in Switzerland and across continental Europe continues to produce technically sophisticated teams capable of competing in software development tooling, a domain traditionally dominated by larger, established vendors and American firms.
