NUSX establishes Munich hub through UnternehmerTUM partnership to bridge Asian and European deep-tech ecosystems

NUSX, the deep-tech venture-building arm of NUS Enterprise, has announced a strategic partnership with UnternehmerTUM, Germany’s leading entrepreneurship centre, to establish its second major international hub in Munich. The new outpost will be based at Munich Urban Colab, marking a significant expansion of the Singapore-headquartered organisation’s global footprint.

The partnership represents a deliberate effort by NUSX to strengthen connections between Asia’s and Europe’s deep-tech communities. Through this collaboration, Singapore-based startups working in deeptech, biotech, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors will gain direct access to European partners, investors, and market opportunities. The arrangement is reciprocal, providing Munich and broader European ventures with a dedicated gateway to Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and investment landscape.

Building on existing academic ties

Dr. Tan Sian Wee, reflecting on the announcement, noted the historical context informing this expansion: “This collaboration with UnternehmerTUM builds on our longstanding ties with the Technical University of Munich as NUSX deepens its global venture-building network.” The partnership builds upon existing relationships between NUS and Munich’s technical university, creating a natural foundation for the venture-building collaboration.

The Munich outpost will support reciprocal investment links between the two regions, enabling capital to flow more readily across both ecosystems. Beyond investment connections, the partnership includes provisions for talent exchanges and joint venture-building programmes, designed to facilitate knowledge transfer and foster collaborative innovation between deep-tech entrepreneurs in both locations.

Part of broader expansion strategy

The Munich expansion forms part of NUSX’s execution of the €102 million NUS VC Programme, which underscores the organisation’s commitment to scaling its venture-building capabilities internationally. This funding mechanism enables NUSX to support early-stage deep-tech companies across multiple geographies, providing both capital and hands-on support to entrepreneurs developing transformative technologies.

The timing of this expansion reflects growing European interest in deeptech ventures, particularly in Germany, where Munich has emerged as a significant hub for semiconductor research, artificial intelligence development, and biotechnology innovation. UnternehmerTUM’s presence in the region, combined with its track record of supporting technology entrepreneurs, positions it as a natural partner for NUSX’s international strategy.

The partnership structure leverages both organisations’ respective strengths—NUSX’s deep-tech venture-building expertise and track record in Asia, alongside UnternehmerTUM’s established networks within German industry, academia, and the investor community. This combination aims to accelerate technology commercialisation and create pathways for ventures to scale across continents.

For the broader European startup ecosystem, this development signals increased institutional focus on deep-tech sectors from Asia-Pacific investors and venture builders. As European governments prioritise technological sovereignty and industrial competitiveness, partnerships that connect regional ecosystems with international innovation centres become increasingly strategic. NUSX’s Munich presence adds another layer to the continent’s growing network of international venture-building organisations, potentially intensifying competition and collaboration within Europe’s deep-tech investment landscape.
