Medly AI, a United Kingdom-based educational technology company, has announced the completion of an $8 million seed funding round designed to accelerate growth of its artificial intelligence-driven tutoring platform. The investment was led by Felix Capital, with additional backing from Eka Ventures and Ada Ventures, alongside several prominent angel investors including Andrey Dobrynin, Al Giles, Jean Hammond, and Hector Mason.
The funding injection represents a significant milestone for the edtech startup, which has already established a substantial user base across the UK. According to the company, its platform currently serves over 400,000 students, positioning it as a notable player in the competitive exam preparation market.
Addressing Educational Inequality
Dr Paul Jung, co-founder and CEO of Medly AI, highlighted the societal challenge the platform aims to address. “Almost a third of 11–16-year-olds receive some form of private tutoring. For those who can afford it, it’s a powerful advantage. For those who can’t, it’s an equally powerful reinforcer of the status quo,” Jung stated. This observation underscores the company’s mission to democratise access to quality educational support through technology.
The fresh capital will be deployed across multiple strategic priorities. The company plans to expand its existing student community base within the UK market whilst simultaneously preparing infrastructure for international expansion. Notably, the United States has been identified as a key market for future growth. Beyond geographic expansion, Medly AI intends to invest in developing additional artificial intelligence capabilities for its platform and conduct further research into measuring and improving academic outcomes for its users.
Platform and Market Position
Medly AI’s core offering centres on an AI-powered examination preparation platform designed to provide personalised learning experiences. The platform’s ability to serve a substantial user base of over 400,000 students demonstrates meaningful market adoption and validates demand for technology-enabled tutoring solutions among UK families navigating the education system.
The investment landscape for European edtech continues to evolve as venture capital investors recognise the sector’s growth potential. Medly AI’s successful funding round reflects broader investor confidence in artificial intelligence applications within education, particularly those addressing accessibility and affordability challenges. The participation of established venture firms alongside experienced angel investors suggests strong conviction in the company’s business model and expansion strategy.
European Edtech Momentum
The funding round arrives at a time when European edtech companies increasingly attract international attention. While the sector experienced considerable volatility following the pandemic-era boom, investors continue backing solutions that address genuine educational needs and demonstrate sustainable unit economics. Medly AI’s focus on exam preparation—a well-defined market segment with clear student outcomes—positions it within a proven edtech category that extends across multiple geographies and education systems.
The company’s ambitions to expand beyond the UK and develop enhanced AI capabilities align with broader trends in the European startup ecosystem, where edtech innovations are increasingly viewed as vehicles for both commercial opportunity and social impact.
