Drivalia, a Rome-based electric vehicle rental company, has secured €48 million ($52 million) in financing from the European Investment Bank to accelerate its fleet electrification efforts across Italy and Finland.
The capital injection will support the purchase and deployment of approximately 2,900 battery electric vehicles intended for corporate and freelancer rentals in both markets. The agreement marks a significant step forward for the mobility company, which was founded in 2019 and has positioned itself as a key player in Europe’s transition toward zero-emission transportation solutions.
Supporting Corporate Fleet Transition
The funding addresses growing demand from businesses seeking to transition their vehicle fleets to electric alternatives while managing operational costs. By offering flexible rental solutions tailored to corporate clients and independent workers, Drivalia aims to remove barriers to electric vehicle adoption across the two markets.
Roberto Sportiello, CEO of Drivalia, commented on the milestone: “We are proud of this agreement with the EIB, which represents an important milestone on our journey towards democratic, zero-impact mobility. Thanks to this financing, we will be able to further accelerate the electrification of corporate fleets in Italy and Finland. At Drivalia, our goal is to lead the energy transition by offering flexible, integrated, and sustainable solutions capable of accompanying businesses towards a more environmentally friendly future.”
Alignment With EU Climate Objectives
The investment aligns with the European Union’s broader climate agenda and the bloc’s commitment to reducing transport sector emissions. By channeling capital toward electric mobility infrastructure, the European Investment Bank demonstrates its continued support for ventures advancing the continent’s decarbonization targets.
Italy and Finland represent strategic markets for this expansion. Italy’s automotive sector and growing urban congestion create demand for flexible mobility alternatives, while Finland has established itself as a tech-forward Nordic market with supportive policies for electric vehicle adoption.
The financing underscores the European Investment Bank’s role in funding climate-aligned businesses, particularly those delivering tangible environmental impact through large-scale vehicle deployment. This backing provides Drivalia with the resources needed to scale operations while strengthening its competitive position in markets increasingly focused on sustainable transportation.
Broader Ecosystem Dynamics
The transaction reflects a maturing European startup ecosystem where growth-stage mobility companies can access institutional capital designed to support climate objectives. As the continent’s automotive sector undergoes fundamental transformation, companies bridging the gap between traditional rental models and electric vehicle adoption are attracting significant investor attention. The EIB’s commitment to Drivalia demonstrates how public financial institutions are partnering with emerging mobility players to accelerate the continent’s transition away from combustion engines toward zero-emission alternatives.
