Norwegian AI Startup Hive Secures $15m Pre-Series A to Scale Industrial Automation Platform

Hive, a Norway-founded artificial intelligence company specializing in automation technology for industrial machinery, has raised $15 million in a pre-Series A funding round. The investment was led by UK-based venture firm SuperSeed, with participation from Veriten, Skyfall, and Nysnø.

The funding marks a significant milestone for the company, which was established in 2020 and has now reached $15 million in total funding. Hive intends to deploy the capital toward three primary objectives: accelerating platform development, recruiting specialized talent in artificial intelligence and robotics, and scaling commercial deployments across its customer base.

Autonomous ‘Silicon Brain’ Technology

Hive has developed what it describes as a “silicon brain” system designed to operate industrial machines autonomously while enabling remote control capabilities. According to the company’s positioning, this technology delivers substantial cost reductions, with claims of an 80% reduction in machine operating costs through optimized autonomous operation and off-site management capabilities.

The platform addresses a persistent challenge in manufacturing and industrial sectors, where equipment downtime and inefficient operation represent significant expense drivers. By introducing AI-driven automation to existing machinery, Hive positions itself within the broader physical AI automation segment that has gained considerable investor attention in recent years.

Geographic Expansion Plans

Currently headquartered in Norway with operations spanning the region, Hive plans to establish a presence in London and expand into the United States market as part of its growth strategy. This geographic diversification reflects the company’s ambition to serve industrial customers across multiple continents and represents a common expansion pathway for European technology firms seeking to access larger addressable markets.

Christoffer Jørgensvaaghim, a company representative, commented on the broader context driving the investment: “The world is changing very rapidly and it’s driven by AI. We’re in the middle of a new industrial revolution, and this industrial revolution will be much bigger than the last one, but it will also go much faster.”

European AI Momentum

Hive’s funding round contributes to a sustained pattern of venture capital investment flowing into European artificial intelligence and automation startups. Norwegian technology companies, in particular, have attracted growing investor interest as the Nordic region continues to establish itself as a secondary hub for AI research and commercialization alongside traditional centers in Western Europe.

The involvement of multiple European investors alongside London-based SuperSeed underscores the interconnected nature of venture funding across the continent. As industrial automation becomes increasingly central to manufacturing competitiveness and operational efficiency, startups addressing this sector continue to attract backing from both established venture firms and specialized climate and technology-focused investors.
