Pandektes, a Copenhagen-based artificial intelligence legal research platform, has secured €13.5 million in Series A funding to accelerate its growth across Europe and North America. The round was led by Alstin Capital, with participation from PROfounders and Scale Capital, alongside existing investors.
The Danish startup, which launched in 2022, has rapidly established itself as a significant player in the European legaltech sector. The company currently serves over 500 organisations and has achieved six-fold revenue growth, indicating strong market validation for its core offering.
Scaling AI-Powered Legal Research
Pandektes operates an AI-driven platform that assists legal professionals in conducting research at unprecedented speed and scale. The new capital will be deployed across three primary objectives: expanding the platform’s technological capabilities, growing the team, and establishing a presence in additional markets.
A key component of the company’s expansion strategy involves building what it describes as a “data-infrastructure layer for legal tech.” This initiative aims to create shared infrastructure that other legal technology developers can leverage, potentially positioning Pandektes as a foundational platform within the broader legaltech ecosystem.
“Building a serious challenger was always deemed impossible,” said Casper Laursen, co-founder and CEO of Pandektes. “Today, we can collect and make sense of legal information at a scale that was not feasible before. That fundamentally changes what legal research can be.” — The statement reflects the company’s confidence in having overcome technical barriers that previously limited innovation in legal research tools.
Market Opportunity and Expansion
The funding announcement comes at a time when European legaltech is attracting increased investor attention. Legal research represents a substantial market opportunity, with law firms and corporate legal departments consistently seeking solutions that can streamline time-consuming research processes and reduce costs associated with manual document review.
Pandektes’ approach of combining artificial intelligence with curated legal data addresses a persistent pain point for its target customers. Rather than relying solely on existing legal databases that organisations must navigate independently, the platform applies AI to deliver more targeted and contextualised results.
The capital infusion will enable the startup to hire additional talent across product development, go-to-market functions, and operations. The geographic expansion into North America, in particular, signals ambitions to penetrate one of the world’s largest legal markets, where established competitors have long held substantial market share.
Broader European Context
The Pandektes funding round underscores Denmark’s emerging position as a hub for legal innovation within Europe. While countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom have established legaltech ecosystems, Nordic startups have increasingly demonstrated competitive advantages through technical depth and innovative approaches to traditional legal problems.
The involvement of Europe-focused venture capital firms like Alstin Capital, PROfounders, and Scale Capital reflects continued investor confidence in the region’s ability to produce scalable technology companies capable of competing globally in specialised sectors.
