Complaion, an Italian regulatory compliance platform, has raised €13.5 million ($14.6 million) in a Series A funding round to accelerate its European expansion and strengthen its technology infrastructure. The round was led by Eurazeo, with participation from Founders Fund, Shapers, 2100 Ventures, Kfund, Sella Direct Ventures, Enzo Ventures, Vento, Ithaca, Eden Ventures, and Vesper.
Founded in 2024, the Milan-based startup has developed a software-as-a-service platform designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises navigate an increasingly complex landscape of compliance requirements. The platform addresses a critical pain point for European SMEs: managing certifications, environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards, and emerging regulations such as the Network and Information Systems Directive 2 (NIS2) and the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act.
Targeting a Growing Market Need
The funding injection comes at a time when European regulators have intensified their focus on compliance and data protection. With new frameworks entering into force at staggered intervals, many SMEs struggle to understand their obligations and implement necessary changes. Complaion’s platform aims to simplify this process through automated compliance tracking and guidance tailored to individual business requirements.
Company founder Edoardo Tarricone emphasized the importance of maintaining human expertise within the compliance process. “In an increasingly digital sector, human expertise must remain central—especially in a complex market such as compliance,” Tarricone said. “We will continue expanding our offerings to serve an ever-growing number of SMEs in Europe and make compliance easier, effortless and reliable. Our mission is to be the point of reference for all compliance needs based on expertise, technology, trust and human connection.”
Investment Plans
The startup intends to deploy the €13.5 million across multiple strategic priorities. Complaion will hire specialized professionals to strengthen its team, enhance its customer support capabilities, and continue developing its proprietary platform. Additionally, the funding will support an accelerated push into new European markets, building on initial traction in its home country.
The composition of the investor syndicate reflects confidence from both established venture capital firms and specialized regulatory technology investors. Eurazeo’s participation as lead investor signals backing from a major European investment platform, while the involvement of specialized funds suggests recognition of the regulatory technology sector’s growth potential.
Broader Context
The investment underscores a wider trend within the European startup ecosystem: the increasing importance of compliance and regulatory technology solutions. As the EU regulatory environment becomes more demanding for businesses of all sizes, software platforms that can reduce compliance burden and automate administrative processes have attracted growing investor interest. Complaion’s funding round demonstrates that venture capital continues to see opportunity in solving compliance challenges for SMEs, a segment that traditionally lacks the internal resources to manage complex regulatory requirements independently.
