Metris Energy, a UK-based artificial intelligence platform designed to manage energy assets, has closed a $5 million seed funding round led by PT1 Ventures. The round included participation from Octopus Ventures, AENU, Blackfinch Ventures, Plug and Play, and Love Ventures, bringing the company’s total funding to $7.5 million.
The capital injection will support Metris Energy’s expansion across several fronts, including enhancing its AI agent capabilities, extending its technology to wind and combined heat and power systems, and accelerating growth across Europe with a particular focus on the German market.
Closing the Data Gap in Energy Management
Metris Energy has developed what it describes as a unified data layer for energy assets, addressing a significant gap in how renewable energy owners currently manage their portfolios. According to Natasha Jones, the company’s founder, the energy transition landscape requires a new approach to asset management. “Metris was founded on the core belief that the winners of the energy transition won’t be the owners of the most kW of capacity, but those who can view, control and monetise them best,” Jones stated. “There’s no unified layer that lets asset owners, or the AI agents now entering this space, actually see and act on their portfolio. That’s the gap we’re closing with Metris.”
The platform addresses a practical challenge facing energy asset owners who often operate disparate systems across multiple types of generation infrastructure, making it difficult to optimise performance and revenue streams across their entire portfolio.
European Expansion Strategy
The fresh funding comes at a pivotal moment for the European energy sector, where the transition toward renewable energy sources continues to accelerate. Metris Energy’s decision to prioritize expansion in Germany reflects the country’s significant renewable energy capacity and ongoing shift away from fossil fuels.
The company plans to use the investment to develop more sophisticated AI features that can increasingly automate decision-making across energy assets. This includes expanding beyond solar installations, which appear to be the initial focus, into wind power systems and combined heat and power units—technologies that require different management approaches but face similar data consolidation challenges.
Broader Context
Metris Energy’s funding round reflects growing investor confidence in software solutions designed to optimise renewable energy operations. As Europe aims to meet ambitious climate targets and decarbonisation goals, the infrastructure for managing distributed energy assets efficiently has become increasingly important. The involvement of established venture firms like Octopus Ventures and infrastructure-focused investors signals that energy asset management software has moved beyond niche applications into mainstream investment territory.
The startup joins a growing ecosystem of cleantech companies across Europe tackling various aspects of the energy transition, from grid infrastructure to battery storage and demand management platforms. For asset owners looking to maximise returns on renewable energy investments, solutions like Metris Energy’s unified platform represent an important layer of operational intelligence in an increasingly complex energy landscape.
