Open Cosmos has raised €300 million ($324 million) in funding to scale its satellite production capabilities and accelerate the deployment of its connectivity and Earth observation platforms across Europe and beyond.
The growth-stage investment round attracted a diverse consortium of backers, including ETF Partners, Lightrock, the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Entrepreneurs First, Convex, the National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF), Phoenix Court, Latitude, and Claret Capital Partners.
Founded in 2015, the UK-based satellite company plans to deploy the funding across multiple strategic initiatives. The capital will support expansion of ConnectedCosmos, the company’s satellite connectivity platform, while simultaneously growing OpenConstellation, its Earth observation service, and DataCosmos, its AI-driven data analytics offering. The investment will also enable Open Cosmos to significantly increase its satellite manufacturing capacity and expand its engineering, manufacturing, and software teams across the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, and Greece.
Expanding European Operations
The geographic expansion demonstrates Open Cosmos’s commitment to establishing a distributed manufacturing and development footprint throughout Europe. By investing in multiple countries, the company aims to build resilience in its supply chain while tapping into regional technical talent and benefiting from local industrial ecosystems.
Rafel Jorda Siquier, a company representative, outlined the strategic vision behind the funding: “By bringing together satellites, secure communications and AI‑powered data services, we’re creating a system that transforms information from orbit into something that governments and enterprises can act on. This investment allows us to accelerate that vision,” Jorda Siquier said.
The funding arrives amid growing European interest in space infrastructure sovereignty and independent connectivity capabilities. Governments and enterprises increasingly recognize the strategic importance of satellite networks for communications redundancy, particularly in remote regions and during emergencies.
Market Context
Open Cosmos operates within a competitive European space sector that has matured significantly over the past decade. The company’s focus on manufacturing-to-service integration positions it to address demand from both governmental and commercial clients seeking reliable satellite-based solutions.
The diversity of the investor consortium reflects broad confidence in the satellite infrastructure sector. Participation from regional development institutions like Institut Català de Finances and entities such as NSSIF indicates recognition of both commercial opportunity and strategic importance.
The European startup ecosystem continues to attract substantial capital for space-focused ventures, with companies addressing connectivity gaps, Earth observation capabilities, and secure communications gaining particular traction. Open Cosmos’s expansion plans align with broader European ambitions to develop indigenous space capabilities and reduce dependence on non-European providers for critical satellite services.
