London AI Compliance Startup HelmGuard Secures $7.3 Million Seed Funding for US Expansion

HelmGuard, a London-based startup developing artificial intelligence solutions for compliance and risk management, has raised $7.3 million in seed funding to accelerate its expansion into North America and advance its product capabilities.

The funding round was co-led by Infinity Ventures and Frontline, with participation from FinTech Collective, Stage 2 Capital, and Entrepreneurs First. The capital injection will support HelmGuard’s establishment of new offices in New York and San Francisco, as well as expansion of its engineering and commercial teams.

Automating Compliance at Scale

HelmGuard operates in the governance, risk and compliance (GRC) sector, offering a platform that uses specialised AI agents to automate risk and compliance assessments for companies operating in regulated industries. The technology targets a persistent challenge in financial services and other heavily regulated sectors: the manual, labour-intensive process of gathering and evaluating risk data.

According to John Daley, HelmGuard’s Co-founder and CEO, the platform delivers significant operational benefits. “Our agents go to the source to collect and assess risk signals directly, abstracting away the manual data collection and assessment work that burns thousands of hours annually,” Daley said. “This funding lets us bring that capability to far more teams and extend it to governing the AI agents being deployed on other workflows.”

The statement suggests HelmGuard is expanding beyond traditional compliance use cases into AI governance, reflecting growing industry concern about monitoring and controlling the behaviour of AI systems deployed across business operations.

Strategic Growth Phase

The $7.3 million seed round represents the company’s first major institutional funding and positions HelmGuard at a critical growth inflection point. The decision to establish operations on both US coasts indicates ambitions to serve major financial and technology hubs, where GRC demand remains substantial and regulatory requirements continue to intensify.

For GRC platforms, the US market offers significant opportunity given the concentration of regulated financial institutions, healthcare companies, and technology firms subject to multiple overlapping compliance regimes. The addition of engineering resources will likely accelerate product development, while commercial team expansion suggests plans to build direct enterprise sales capabilities.

The inclusion of FinTech Collective among the investors signals confidence in HelmGuard’s relevance to the financial services sector, a core target market for compliance automation solutions.

European Context

HelmGuard’s funding announcement reflects broader momentum in the European AI and compliance technology sectors. London has emerged as a secondary hub for fintech and regulatory technology development, competing with larger centres but benefiting from proximity to major financial markets and a growing venture capital ecosystem. The involvement of both UK-focused investors and international firms in this round underscores the increasing attractiveness of European compliance tech solutions to global capital sources seeking exposure to the rapidly evolving regulatory technology space.
