Neno, an Amsterdam-based fintech startup, has secured €6.6 million ($7.1 million) in Seed funding to accelerate development of its AI-native back-office platform designed to streamline financial operations for small and medium-sized enterprises across Europe.
The funding round was led by AlleyCorp, with participation from Motive Partners and Firstminute Capital. The round also attracted backing from angel investors with significant experience in financial technology and software, including executives from Hugging Face, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Miro, Coinbase, PayPal, Navro, and other notable firms.
Automating the Back Office
Neno’s platform addresses a common pain point for entrepreneurs: the fragmented nature of financial management across multiple service providers. The startup offers an integrated solution that automates accounting, tax compliance, payroll processing, and banking operations—functions typically requiring coordination between banks, bookkeepers, and tax advisors.
According to Nick Knuppe, founder of Neno, the company’s approach represents a fundamental shift in how businesses handle their back-office operations. “Instead of business owners coordinating between banks, bookkeepers, and tax advisors, we deliver a single ‘done-for-you’ state of work where reconciliation, compliance, and reporting happen automatically in the background. The business owner’s only touchpoint is reviewing what’s already been handled,” Knuppe explained.
The platform claims to save business owners over 100 hours annually by eliminating manual data entry and reconciliation tasks.
Strategic Use of Capital
Neno plans to deploy the newly raised capital across several key initiatives. The company will establish Neno Labs, a dedicated research unit focused on advancing its artificial intelligence capabilities, particularly its Ambient AI technology. The funding will also support significant expansion of the company’s accounting and tax teams, as well as recruitment of go-to-market personnel.
Beyond product development, the capital will facilitate Neno’s geographic expansion strategy. The startup intends to enter additional European markets during 2027, building on its current presence in the Netherlands. This expansion reflects growing demand across the continent for AI-powered financial automation solutions tailored to SME requirements.
Broader European Context
The investment underscores continued investor confidence in European fintech solutions addressing operational inefficiencies. While venture capital deployment in Europe has moderated from pandemic peaks, sectors focused on productivity and automation continue attracting funding, particularly when companies demonstrate clear value propositions for underserved market segments like SMEs.
Neno’s funding round reflects this trend, arriving as regulatory frameworks around AI implementation in financial services continue evolving across EU member states. The company’s emphasis on compliance automation positions it favorably within this changing landscape, where managing regulatory complexity remains a significant burden for smaller enterprises lacking dedicated compliance resources.
