Hungarian EdTech Startup BOOKR Secures €6.1 Million Series A to Fuel Global Expansion

BOOKR, a Hungarian educational technology company specializing in digital literacy solutions, has closed a €6.1 million Series A funding round led by TCEE Fund IV. The capital injection reflects growing investor confidence in the company’s mission to transform reading instruction through technology-enabled learning platforms.

The funding round included participation from 3TS Capital Partners, Leib Lurie, Robert Iskander, Infinit Capital Oy, and Albert Sarospataki through FusionWise. This diverse investor base underscores the appeal of BOOKR’s business model across different market segments and geographies.

Scaling a Growing Global Presence

BOOKR currently serves over 600,000 students across 30+ countries, establishing itself as a meaningful player in the competitive EdTech landscape. The company reported $2.7 million in revenue, providing evidence of strong market traction and customer demand for its offerings. This latest investment will accelerate the company’s expansion strategy across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

The fresh capital will support the launch of two new products: BOOKR Next and BOOKR Phonics, both designed to address specific literacy development needs. Additionally, the company plans to expand its Teacher Dashboard and Speaking Studio internationally, recognizing that educators require robust tools to monitor student progress and deliver personalized instruction. BOOKR intends to invest in research initiatives linking product usage to measurable learning outcomes, an area where many EdTech providers face scrutiny.

Focus on Future-Ready Skills

Dr Dorka Horváth, CEO and Co-Founder of BOOKR Kids, articulated the company’s broader educational philosophy in discussing the investment: “The next generation will not compete with AI on speed. They will need to compete on depth: comprehension, curiosity, judgement and the ability to ask better questions. This investment allows BOOKR to build the learning infrastructure behind those capabilities, and to take it to millions more children around the world.”

This statement reflects a strategic positioning within the EdTech sector that emphasizes deep learning and critical thinking rather than rote skill acquisition—concerns that have become increasingly prominent as artificial intelligence reshapes educational debates.

European EdTech Momentum Continues

The BOOKR funding round demonstrates continued European investor appetite for education-focused startups, particularly those addressing foundational skills like reading and literacy. The involvement of TCEE Fund IV, a venture capital firm focused on Central and Eastern European technology companies, highlights how regional investors are increasingly backing homegrown talent with global ambitions.

Hungary has emerged as a notable source of EdTech innovation within the European startup ecosystem, with companies leveraging local expertise to develop solutions with international relevance. BOOKR’s trajectory—from serving hundreds of thousands of students to securing multi-million euro funding rounds—suggests the European EdTech sector continues to mature, attracting institutional capital and competing effectively for talent and market share on the global stage.
