EcoNomad Solutions has secured £400,000 in seed funding to expand its BioNomad waste-to-energy system, a technology designed to help small livestock farms reduce methane emissions while lowering operational costs. The funding round was led by the British Design Fund, with support from the Innovate UK Investor Partnership and existing investor Beeches Group.
The capital injection marks a significant milestone for the UK-based cleantech company, which specialises in anaerobic digestion technology tailored to the agricultural sector. The funding will be directed towards product development, scaling commercial deployment across the UK and Europe, and refining the BioNomad into a fully automated plug-and-play system.
Addressing a Market Gap
Small and medium-sized farms have traditionally been underserved by renewable energy solutions, which are often designed for larger agricultural operations with greater infrastructure capacity. EcoNomad Solutions aims to bridge this gap by making waste-to-energy technology accessible and practical for smaller holdings.
“Small farms are under increasing pressure, yet they’re often excluded from the renewable energy solutions available to larger operators,” said Dr Ilan Adler, Founder & CEO of EcoNomad Solutions. “Our mission is to change that. The BioNomad is designed to make waste-to-energy accessible, affordable and practical for even the smallest farms, helping them reduce emissions, lower costs and build resilience.”
Technology and Impact
The BioNomad system converts organic waste from livestock farming into energy, simultaneously addressing two critical challenges facing the agricultural sector: greenhouse gas emissions and rising input costs. By capturing biogas from farm waste, the technology enables farmers to generate renewable energy on-site while producing high-quality fertiliser as a byproduct.
This dual benefit creates a compelling value proposition for farm operators struggling with energy expenses and environmental compliance pressures. As farms increasingly face scrutiny over their carbon footprint and operational sustainability, solutions that simultaneously reduce emissions and cut costs hold particular appeal.
European Ambitions
The funding reflects growing investor confidence in cleantech solutions for agriculture, a sector responsible for significant methane emissions across Europe. With backing from experienced investors spanning design innovation, public sector innovation programmes, and agricultural investment, EcoNomad Solutions is positioning itself for rapid expansion beyond the UK market.
The involvement of the Innovate UK Investor Partnership, a joint initiative supporting growth-stage UK innovators, signals institutional backing for the technology’s potential to address pressing environmental and economic challenges in farming communities.
As European agricultural policy increasingly prioritises sustainability targets and emissions reductions, technologies like the BioNomad represent the kind of practical, commercially viable solutions that could accelerate the sector’s transition towards more resilient and environmentally responsible practices.
