Norwegian Startup Birdsview Secures €3.7 Million to Scale “MRI for Concrete” Technology Across Europe

Birdsview, a Bergen-based deeptech company developing ground-penetrating radar and AI-powered inspection technology for concrete infrastructure, has raised €3.7 million ($4.0 million) in a funding round led by Sarsia. The capital injection reflects growing investor confidence in solutions addressing critical infrastructure maintenance challenges across Northern Europe and beyond.

The Norwegian startup, founded in 2017, offers what it describes as an “MRI for concrete”—a non-destructive inspection platform designed to identify structural issues within concrete without damaging the material. The technology combines ground-penetrating radar with artificial intelligence to provide detailed analysis of infrastructure condition, supporting maintenance decisions and extending asset lifespans.

The funding round attracted a diverse consortium of Nordic investors, including Butterfly Ventures, Proptechfonden, Kiilto Ventures, Nordic Makers, Momentum, Eviny Ventures, and Farvatn Venture. Individual investors Erik Bakstad, founder of Ardoq, Gunnar Hvammen, and Herman Flinder also participated in the round.

Rapid International Traction

Birdsview’s trajectory suggests significant market demand for infrastructure inspection solutions. The company reports that customers in eight to nine countries have adopted its Birdsview Concrete platform within weeks of its launch, indicating strong product-market fit in the construction and infrastructure sectors.

“This funding round is an important milestone for Birdsview,” said Olav Skogen, CEO of the company. “With €3.7 million (NOK 40.5 million) secured, and a Nordic investor consortium that understands both our technology and our market, we now have the resources to scale commercially and industrially across multiple countries. The fact that customers in eight countries have already chosen Birdsview Concrete just weeks after launch shows that we are solving a real problem for the industry.”

Strategic Scaling Plans

The capital will support commercial expansion, industrial deployment, and international growth across multiple territories. Birdsview has already established partnerships with major construction firms, providing a foundation for accelerated market penetration. The company’s focus on infrastructure inspection positions it within the growing deeptech sector, which combines advanced sensor technology, materials science, and machine learning to address physical-world challenges.

Infrastructure maintenance represents a significant challenge across Europe, where aging concrete structures require regular assessment. Traditional inspection methods often involve invasive testing or visual assessment, limiting the precision of condition evaluations. Birdsview’s non-destructive approach offers a more efficient alternative, potentially reducing inspection time and improving decision-making for infrastructure managers.

European Deeptech Momentum

The funding round reflects broader momentum in European deeptech and construction technology. Nordic regions have emerged as particular hotspots for innovation in infrastructure solutions, combining strong technical expertise with substantial investment activity. Birdsview’s success in attracting a regional investor consortium demonstrates confidence in Norwegian deeptech capabilities and the viability of solving critical infrastructure challenges through technological innovation.
