UK Water-Tech Startup Metal Morph Secures £700k Pre-Seed to Scale Resource Recovery From Wastewater

Metal Morph, a newly formed UK-based water technology company, has raised £700,000 ($889,000) in pre-seed funding to develop and deploy its resource recovery infrastructure across municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities.

The funding round was co-led by Sustainable Ventures and Green Angel Ventures, with participation from Aqcelerator and Found Capital. The capital injection marks an early validation of Metal Morph’s approach to extracting valuable materials from water treatment processes that are typically discarded or require expensive disposal.

Recovering Value From Overlooked Infrastructure

Metal Morph has developed a technology platform designed to recover aluminium and iron-based chemicals from wastewater streams. Rather than treating these materials as waste, the company’s infrastructure-as-a-service model captures and recycles them, creating economic value while reducing the environmental footprint of water treatment operations.

The startup plans to deploy the newly raised funds across several operational priorities. The company will continue advancing its core technology, roll out pilot projects with water utilities and industrial partners, and prepare demonstrations targeting the broader European market. These validation efforts underscore Metal Morph’s strategy of building trust with established infrastructure operators before scaling deployment.

Moletsane Mophethe, the company’s founder, highlighted the personal motivation driving the venture. “Growing up in a place where access to clean water was uncertain instilled within me an appreciation of how fragile access to essential resources can be. With Metal Morph, I want to help change that reality. Water infrastructure is one of the most overlooked industrial supply chains in the world. By harnessing them correctly, we are fundamentally reshaping the supply of essential chemicals to reduce the cost of water production,” Mophethe stated.

Circular Supply Chain Opportunity

The resource recovery approach addresses multiple market pressures simultaneously. Water utilities face mounting costs for chemical procurement, while industrial users seek sustainable sourcing alternatives.
