Xeltis, a Netherlands-based medtech company developing artificial blood vessels and heart valves, has closed a €20.5 million ($22.1 million) funding round to accelerate its clinical development and commercial expansion across multiple geographies.
The round was led by Horizon 3 Healthcare, with participation from the European Innovation Council, Invest-NL, VI Partners, EQT Life Sciences, DaVita, and existing shareholders. The fresh capital brings Xeltis’s total funding to €85.5 million since its founding in 2006.
Advancing US and European Markets
The company plans to deploy the funding across several strategic priorities. Most notably, Xeltis will finalize its pivotal trial for aXess, its vascular access technology, and prepare materials for submission to the US Food and Drug Administration ahead of a market launch in the United States. Simultaneously, the startup will continue expanding its commercial presence in Europe, where it is already rolling out its vascular access products.
Manufacturing capacity will also receive investment as the company scales production to meet anticipated demand following regulatory approvals and market entries.
Eliane Schutte, Chief Executive Officer of Xeltis, commented on the achievement: “This fundraising not only enables us to bring our groundbreaking vascular access technology to more European patients, as we continue our successful commercial rollout, but also enables us to advance our aXess™ pivotal trial in the US, prepare for US market launch and continue our other exciting clinical programs, XABG and XPAD. We welcome our new investor Horizon 3 Healthcare and thank them, and our existing investors, for their confidence in Xeltis as we look to bring much-needed alternatives to patients.”
Expanding the Pipeline
Beyond aXess, Xeltis is advancing two additional programs: XABG, a coronary artery bypass graft, and XPAD, a peripheral arterial disease solution. These clinical initiatives represent the company’s broader ambition to address multiple vascular and cardiac needs using its living-tissue platform technology.
The startup’s core differentiation lies in its approach to creating functional blood vessels and valves using tissue-engineered constructs. Such solutions aim to provide more durable and biocompatible alternatives to conventional synthetic grafts and mechanical devices.
Growing Medtech Investment Landscape
Xeltis’s successful funding round reflects sustained investor confidence in European medtech innovation, particularly in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. The participation of specialized healthcare investors such as Horizon 3 Healthcare and EQT Life Sciences, alongside public funding mechanisms like the European Innovation Council and Invest-NL, demonstrates the multi-layered support ecosystem available to advanced medical device companies in Europe.
As regulatory pathways for tissue-engineered products mature and manufacturing techniques improve, companies like Xeltis are increasingly attracting capital to bridge the gap between clinical validation and commercial deployment. The company’s dual-geography strategy—combining European commercial expansion with US regulatory advancement—positions it to capitalize on growing demand for innovative vascular solutions in both markets.
